Prayer is not just a spiritual discipline—it’s a divine invitation. Through prayer, we are welcomed into the throne room of heaven to speak with the King of Kings, to listen, to align our hearts with His, and to join Him in the unfolding of His Kingdom on earth.
In my upcoming book, Kingdom Living: How Your Ordinary Days Become an Extraordinary Ministry, I reflect often on how prayer is the lifeblood of Kingdom living. It's not an afterthought or a religious obligation—it’s the very means by which we partner with God in our everyday lives.
Whether you're washing dishes, driving to work, leading a meeting, or comforting a hurting friend—your life can become a sacred space of communion with God through prayer.
Prayer as Partnership, Not Performance
Too often, we approach prayer as a checklist or a one-way conversation. But Jesus modeled something far deeper: ongoing intimacy and partnership with the Father.
“Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing...” — John 5:19 (NIV)
When we pray, we aren’t trying to impress God—we’re aligning our hearts with His. We’re listening, asking, surrendering, and receiving.
In Kingdom Living, I write about how I learned to see prayer not as a pause in my ministry, but as the power behind it. God was teaching me that every moment offered a chance to invite Him in—not just the “spiritual” moments, but the messy, mundane, in-between ones too.
Jesus and the Priority of Prayer
Jesus, though fully God, continually pulled away from the crowds to pray. Before choosing His disciples, He spent the night in prayer (Luke 6:12). Before going to the cross, He poured out His heart in the garden (Matthew 26:36–46). In the morning, before the day began, He sought the Father in solitude (Mark 1:35).
If Jesus needed to pray—how much more do we?
And not only that—Jesus taught His disciples to pray for the coming of God's Kingdom:
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10
To live a Kingdom life is to pray this prayer daily—not just with words, but with our actions and obedience.
Prayer as Fuel for Ministry
As I’ve walked out ordinary ministry—at home, overseas, in coffee shops and grocery stores—I’ve seen how prayer opens doors no strategy ever could. Prayer makes space for the Spirit to lead, empowers us with wisdom beyond our understanding, and softens hearts to the Gospel.
In the book, I share stories of quiet prayers that led to powerful conversations, of intercession that stirred hope, of surrender that brought peace when circumstances didn’t change—but I did.
Kingdom Living Begins on Our Knees
Prayer is how we see the world through God’s eyes. It’s how we carry the burdens of others, contend for justice, listen for the Spirit’s prompting, and receive courage when we feel weak.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” — Colossians 4:2
In Kingdom Living, I encourage readers to take time each day to pray intentionally—sometimes through written reflections, sometimes through silence, sometimes with tears. Every day of the devotional includes a question to help guide this conversation with God.
